While here in BVI I did a lot of island hopping from Tortola to Virgin Gorda. Then I actually went from Virgin Gorda down to the West End and caught the ferry to Jost Van Dyke. From Jost Van Dyke I caught the ferry to to USVI which went through St John where we processed immigration then went to St Thomas. We will also do a US Virgin Islands vlog soon. Welcome to Tortola, British Virgin Islands, the largest and most vibrant island in the BVI. Known for its stunning beaches, crystal-clear waters, and lush green hills, Tortola offers a perfect mix of relaxation and adventure.
Start your visit at Road Town, the capital of the British Virgin Islands. Stroll through the town to explore local shops, restaurants, and the historic waterfront. Visit the Crafts Alive Village, where you can shop for locally made souvenirs, clothing, and jewelry.
Relax at Cane Garden Bay, one of the most popular beaches on Tortola. With its soft white sand and calm turquoise waters, it’s perfect for swimming, paddleboarding, or just soaking up the sun. The beach is also lined with beach bars serving fresh seafood and tropical drinks.
For a quieter beach experience, head to Smuggler’s Cove, a hidden gem with crystal-clear waters and excellent snorkeling opportunities. The beach is less crowded and offers a peaceful escape.
Explore the history of Tortola at Fort Burt, a colonial-era fort that offers panoramic views of Road Harbour. Another historical site is Callwood Rum Distillery, one of the oldest rum distilleries in the Caribbean, where you can sample traditional Caribbean rum.
Adventure seekers can hike to the top of Sage Mountain National Park, the highest point in the British Virgin Islands. The trails take you through a lush rainforest, offering spectacular views of the island and the surrounding Caribbean Sea.
