Eating Tour of Sangre Grande, Trinidad & Tobago 🇹🇹 Foodie Nation

Recently, we were invited to eat our way through Sangre Grande, Trinidad and Tobago 🇹🇹 by Hakeem, a young up-and-coming chef from the area. We started off at Cafe Grande, where we enjoyed their salmon, mashed potatoes and vegetables, we then stopped to take pictures at Scrunter’s Forest, a landmark in Sangre Grande. We then visited Chefanie’s for some Venezuelan food, followed by a drive to Ojoe Road to check out Kings Strip Restaurant and Creamy Roll Ice Cream, here we enjoyed some of their popular wings, pasta, quesadillas, and of course ice cream!

After all of that, we were forced to reopen our stomachs to accommodate some bess punch from Natures Promotions on the Eastern Main Road, these included beetroot and sea moss of course. To end off the night we went to check our foodie friend, Camille of Simply Made Pizzeria, for some (meat-filled) pizza and beer! All in all it was a very enjoyable experience getting to see and taste a different side of Sangre Grande and East, Trinidad. We definitely recommend that you visit and eat your way through the area! Mayaro to Manzanilla RUN (24k) & Hike to Brigand Hill Lighthouse (10k) done @teamfitnesstnt in 4k

Brigand Hill Lighthouse is a Cultural Heritage Site of Trinidad and Tobago located in Plum Mitan Road, Sangre Grande/Manzanilla.

Lighthouse History:
ne morning in June 1868, a wooden-hulled ship named Le Darien was steaming up the east coast of Trinidad, when the crew spotted the nightmare of all sailors of the time.

The vessel was far from the shallow, 25 miles out, but just ahead was a “confused sea” swirling around a broad reef, with two jagged rocks breaking the surface each time the swells subsided.

The captain steered clear, took coordinates of the location, and added “Darien Rock” to the navigational charts as a warning to seafarers sailing the unforgiving Atlantic Ocean.

This menace to mariners off Manzanilla Point was the primary reason why the colonial government decided to construct a lighthouse in this area of Trinidad.

But to be effective, it needed a beam powerful enough to be seen 30 miles away, to intersect the one flashing across the waters from the lighthouse in Tobago.
